Dimmitrol Tablets 50mg 100's
Dimmitrol Tablets are indicated for the prevention of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) disease in dogs. This treatment is quickly cleared from a dog’s body. It must be given daily in order to be an effective heartworm preventative.
Warnings, Side Effects and Drug Interactions: Dogs older than 6 months of age should be tested for heartworm disease before commencing treatment with this medication. Dimmitrol tablets may be harmful to dogs infected with circulating microfilariae. It should not be used in these dogs until cleared by a veterinarian.
Dosage and Administration: Dose 5.5mg/kg bodyweight once daily.

Actions | The exact mode of action of diethylcarbamazine citrate is not fully understood, however current evidence suggests an immune system/drug interaction, although diethylcarbamazine citrate has shown cholinesterase effects. Diethylcarbamazine citrate is effective against the L4 larvae of Dirofilaria immitis as it moults within three months of infection by mosquitoes. Uptake from the gut is rapid and clearance is mostly as metabolites in the urine. |
