Profender combines powerful, broad-spectrum control of intestinal worms with the ease
and convenience of spot-on treatment. No more struggling cats. And above all,
no more worms.
Profender protects your cat from hookworms, roundworms and tapeworms in one easy treatment. It is the only intestinal wormer that kills all infective stages of the relevant intestinal worms in cats in Australia.
Powerful, broad spectrum control of intestinal worms
Profender is the world’s first spot-on intestinal wormer for cats. It contains two
active ingredients – emodepside and praziquantel - which are quickly absorbed
through the skin to give effective control of all gastrointestinal worms.
How does Profender work?
Profender contains new technology specially formulated for your cat. Once applied to your cat’s skin it rapidly enters the bloodstream and travels to the intestines where the two active ingredients kill worms on contact.
Easy worming starts here
Pre-measured tubes make application of Profender quick, simple and stress-free.
Profender is applied to the skin at the back of your cat’s neck. With no need for tablets,
Profender will take the stress out of worming for you and your cat.
Profender is tough on worms, but gentle on your pet.
Profender can be used on kittens from 8 weeks of age weighing more than 0.5kg and it is safe to use on pregnant and lactating queens.
When do I use Profender?
Profender is extremely effective at killing worms that are present in the intestine at the time of treatment. However, it does not act like a vaccine to protect against future infection. That’s why regular treatment is essential to maintain your cat’s health. Cats can be reinfected from the environment and contact with other pets.
- Adult cats: Treat with Profender every 3 months
- Pregnant cats: Treat with Profender at mating, before birth of the kittens and then every 3 months.
|Indication||Treatment and control of intestinal parasites in cats including roundworms: mature, immature and larval (L3 and L4) stages of Toxocara cati, and mature, immature and larval (L4) stages of Toxascaris leonina; prevents lactogenic transmission of T. cati from queens to kittens; hookworms: mature, immature and larval (L4) stages of Ancylostoma tubaeformae; lungworms (Aelurostrongylus abstrusus); and tapeworms: mature and immature stages of Dipylidium caninum and Taenia taeniaeformis.|
|Actions||Emodepside acts presynaptically at the neuromuscular junctions. The end result is flaccid paralysis and death of the nematodes. Praziquantel destroys the tapeworm's ability to defend itself from the host's digestive enzymes and immune system. It also appears to interfere with the musculature of the scolex such that the parasite loses its attachment to the gut wall.|
|Warnings||For external use only. Do not administer by mouth. Do not administer to kittens under 8 weeks of age or less than 0.5 kg bodyweight.|
|Precautions||Do not administer by mouth. Avoid the recipient cat or other cats in the household licking the site of application after the treatment has been applied. If licked by cats, transient signs of distaste (and occasionally vomiting) may be observed due to the bitter taste, and mild and transient neurological disorders such as ataxia may occur in very rare cases. Shampooing or immersion of the animal in water directly after treatment may reduce the efficacy of the product. Treated animals should not be bathed until the solution has fully dried. The liquid vehicle in Profender may discolour certain surfaces and fabrics e.g. polished floorboards, leather. Allow the application site to dry before permitting contact. Occasionally hair loss may occur at the application site. This is usually a single occurrence and hair will grow back uneventfully.Harmful if swallowed. Will irritate the eyes.
