Indication | Bacterial infections of the eye or ear in dogs, cats, horses, cattle and sheep. |
Actions | Framixin contains three antibiotics to provide a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. Activity against Staphylococci, Streptococci and Pseudomonas is significant. These three antibiotics have good aural activity while there is negligible systemic absorption. Cross resistance between the three is unlikely; however, cross resistance can occur between framycetin and neomycin products.Microbiology The antibacterial spectrum of framycetin includes Staphylococcus sp., Escherichia coli , Klebsiella sp., Haemophilus sp., Proteus sp., Salmonella sp., Shigella sp. and mycobacteria. The antibacterial spectrum of polymyxin includes E. coli , Klebsiella, Haemophilus, Salmonella, Shigella, Pseudomonas, fungi and protozoa. The antibacterial spectrum of bacitracin includes Staphylococcus sp., Streptococcus sp., Clostridium sp., Corynebacterium sp. and Treponema sp. |
Warnings | Care should be exercised when changing from one aural medication to another because of possible incompatibilities including the following: polymyxin is incompatible with chloramphenicol, cephalosporins, tetracycline, nitrofurans, cloxacillin, kanamycin and prednisolone sodium acetate; framycetin is incompatible with polysorbate and novobiocin; and bacitracin is incompatible with macrogol, propylene glycol, benzalkonium chloride, phenol and tannic acid. |

Dosage and Administration | Squeeze a small amount into the affected ear at least four times/day for seven days. If the condition has not resolved in seven days, reassessment is recommended. |
