Indication | Dogs. Alleviation of inflammation and pain in acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders, and reduction of postoperative pain and inflammation following orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery in dogs. Cats. Reduction of pain after surgery, and management of febrile conditions in combination with appropriate antibiotics. |
Contraindications | Administration to pregnant or lactating animals, or animals suffering from gastrointestinal disorders such as irritation and haemorrhage, impaired hepatic, cardiac or renal function or haemorrhagic disorders, or when there is evidence of individual hypersensitivity to the product.As is the case for all NSAIDs, administration to debilitated geriatric and animals under the age of 6 weeks must be carefully managed at the clinical level. |
Actions | Meloxicam is a NSAID derived from oxicam. Meloxicam acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, exerting anti-inflammatory, antiexudative, analgesic and antipyretic effects. It reduces leukocyte infiltration into inflamed tissue. |
Precautions | Hypovolaemia or hypotension should be corrected prior to use of the product. Cats. Meloxicam should be used as a single dose of meloxicam 0.3 mg/kg. Safety trials have demonstrated that meloxicam, when administered to cats subcutaneously at 0.3 mg/kg at 24 hour intervals for three consecutive days, resulted in no side effects in trial animals.First Aid If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Dosage and Administration | Dogs. Musculoskeletal disorders. Give a single subcutaneous injection at a dosage of meloxicam 0.2 mg/kg bodyweight. Ilium Meloxicam Oral Suspension for Dogs should be used for continuation of treatment at a dosage of 0.1 mg/kg bodyweight, 24 hours after administration of injection. Postoperative pain. Give a single intravenous or subcutaneous injection at a dosage of meloxicam 0.2 mg/kg bodyweight before surgery.Cats. Postoperative pain. Give a single subcutaneous injection at a dosage of meloxicam 0.3 mg/kg bodyweight immediately prior to induction of anaesthesia. Febrile conditions. Give a single subcutaneous injection at a dosage of meloxicam 0.3 mg/kg bodyweight. |
Storage | Store below 25°C (air conditioning). Use all product within 28 days of first broaching the container. Discard any unused portion. |
