|Drug Name and Strength||Tilmicosin 300mg/ml|
|Indication||Respiratory diseases (BRD) in lot fed cattle associated with Mannheimia (Pasteurella) haemolytica and P. multocida, and other organisms sensitive to tilmicosin.|
|Contraindications||Do not use in lactating cows where milk or milk products may be used for human consumption. Administration intravenously or intramuscularly; inject subcutaneously only in cattle; intravenous injection in cattle has been fatal. Pneumatic or hydraulically operated syringes should not be used with this product. This product is contraindicated for use in pigs, goats and nonhuman primates. Injection has been shown to be fatal in pigs, nonhuman primates, goats, sheep (intravenous injection) and lambs less than 15 kg bodyweight. Tilmicosin may be fatal in horses. The safety of tilmicosin has not been established in pregnant cattle.|
|Actions||Tilmicosin has an in vitro bacteriostatic antibacterial spectrum that is predominantly Gram-positive with activity against certain Gram-negative microorganisms. Activity against several Mycoplasma sp. has also been detected.|
|Precautions||Micotil must be administered by appropriately trained personnel who are using techniques designed to reduce the risk of accidental self-injection.Not for human use. While this product is well tolerated by cattle, there is a risk of severe injury to humans associated with accidental self-injection. Injection of this drug in humans has been associated with fatalities. Keep out of reach of children. Exercise extreme caution to avoid accidental self-injection. Care should be taken to avoid needle-stick injury when injecting this product. Keep a protective cover on needles until ready to use. Never carry a loaded syringe in pocket or clothing.First Aid In case of human injection, seek immediate medical assistance. Consult a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (phone Australia 131 126) immediately. In the event of self-injection, apply ice to injection site and take this label information and the Material Safety Data Sheet (if available) with you to the doctor. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Seek immediate medical assistance. Note to doctor. The cardiovascular system is the target of toxicity and should be monitored closely. Cardiovascular toxicity may be due to calcium channel blockade. In dogs, administration of intravenous calcium offset Micotil induced tachycardia and negative inotropy (decreased contractility). Dobutamine partially offset the negative inotropic effects induced by Micotil in dogs. Epinephrine potentiated lethality of Micotil in pigs. ß-Adrenergic antagonists, such as propranolol, exacerbated the negative inotropy of Micotil in dogs. This antibiotic persists in tissues for several days.|
|Dosage and Administration||Properly restrain animals prior to administration. Do not administer Micotil if the animal cannot be restrained. Administer a single subcutaneous injection of tilmicosin 10 mg/kg bodyweight (1 mL/30 kg) using a standard disposable syringe or multifilling syringe. With a single hand on the syringe, insert the needle subcutaneously, at a top down angle, whilst avoiding penetration of underlying muscle. Do not inject more than 25 mL per injection site. Subcutaneous injection must be made high into the neck. If no improvement is noted within 48 hours, the diagnosis should be re-evaluated. Note. Swelling at the subcutaneous site of injection may be observed but is transient and usually mild.|
|Storage||Store below 30°C (room temperature). Protect from direct sunlight. Use the contents of the vial within 90 days of initial broaching and discard any unused portion.|
