More Information
Drug Name and Strength Cloxacillin 200 mg (as the benzathine salt)
Quantity 20 Tubes
Indication Noroclox LC is recommended for the treatment of bovine mastitis during lactation caused by organisms sensitive to cloxacillin. It is particularly recommended for the treatment of staphylococcal infections, when the sustained bactericidal action against both penicillin resistant and sensitive strains will meet with the strict requirements for successful treatment.
Contraindications Administration to cows which are allergic to penicillin.
Actions Noroclox LC is bactericidal, and the duration of treatment provided by the recommended dosage makes Noroclox LC particularly useful when Staphylococci are known or suspected to be involved. Noroclox LC is active against Gram-positive organisms associated with mastitis. It is highly effective against Streptococcus agalactia and other streptococcal species, penicillin resistant and sensitive Staphylococci and Arcanobacterium pyogenes. Unlike natural penicillins, cloxacillin is not destroyed by β-lactamase. It is therefore active against penicillin resistant staphylococci which are an important cause of mastitis. The antibiotic is bactericidal at the concentrations produced, and is nonirritant to the udder tissues. In staphylococcal and certain forms of streptococcal mastitis, an adequate duration of treatment is important in achieving both clinical and bacteriological cures. Noroclox LC, with its slow release, is designed to meet these requirements for successful treatment.
Precautions Avoid handling this product if you are allergic to penicillins. Seek medical advice if you develop symptoms after use.First Aid If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.Disposal Dispose of empty container by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage.
Dosage and Administration Infuse the contents of one syringe every 48 hours for three treatments per infected quarter. After milking and prior to infusing Noroclox LC into each infected quarter, clean and disinfect the teat with an approved teat disinfectant. Insert the nozzle into the teat canal and apply gentle and continuous pressure on the plunger until all the suspension is expressed. Wear sanitised rubber gloves when applying the infusion. Infuse one syringe of Noroclox LC into each infected quarter then teat dip or spray the teat. Noroclox LC is presented in syringes with a variable tip. This variable tip allows for either full or partial insertion into the teat orifice. Partial insertion only is preferable, as it may prevent unnecessary damage to the teat orifice and reduce the risk of infection. There is evidence that partial insertion can reduce the incidence of Staph. aureus and Strep. uberis infections. The treated quarter/s should be milked out at the next normal milking and milk withheld from the general collection. For advice on feeding calves with milk taken during the withholding period contact the prescribing veterinarian. Any variation by the prescribing veterinarian to the approved dose, frequency, duration, route, disease or target species may require extending the withholding period.
