More Information
Drug Name and Strength Prednisolone 200mg/5gm
Quantity 50 x 5gm Sachets
Indication Allergic skin conditions and chronic inflammation, noninfectious respiratory conditions of horses, pruritus and self-trauma associated with Queensland itch, cutaneous onchocerciasis; inflammation associated with noninfectious postviral laryngitis, bronchitis, lower airway inflammation.
Contraindications Administration to horses with laminitis (founder), corneal ulcers or renal diseases. Use in breeding stallions, pregnant mares and foals; corticosteroids may cause abortion in pregnant mares.
Actions Synthetic biologically active corticosteroid with high glucocorticoid activity, and minimal mineralocorticoid action. It nonspecifically inhibits the inflammatory process, suppressing local heat, pain, oedema and swelling. It also acts to suppress the local immune reaction, without inhibiting the general immune response at recommended oral dosage regimens. Prednisolone is useful for its anti-inflammatory, antiallergy and immunosuppressive actions, with minimal risk of sodium retention, electrolyte imbalance, or oedema with prolonged low dose therapy.
Precautions Corticosteroids lower the immune response to infections, and may delay wound healing and fracture repair, particularly in older animals.Disposal Dispose of empty sachets by wrapping in paper and placing in garbage.
