|Indication||Allergic skin conditions and chronic inflammation, noninfectious respiratory conditions of horses, pruritus and self-trauma associated with Queensland itch, cutaneous onchocerciasis; inflammation associated with noninfectious postviral laryngitis, bronchitis, lower airway inflammation.|
|Contraindications||Administration to horses with laminitis (founder), corneal ulcers or renal diseases. Use in breeding stallions, pregnant mares and foals; corticosteroids may cause abortion in pregnant mares.|
|Actions||Synthetic biologically active corticosteroid with high glucocorticoid activity, and minimal mineralocorticoid action. It nonspecifically inhibits the inflammatory process, suppressing local heat, pain, oedema and swelling. It also acts to suppress the local immune reaction, without inhibiting the general immune response at recommended oral dosage regimens. Prednisolone is useful for its anti-inflammatory, antiallergy and immunosuppressive actions, with minimal risk of sodium retention, electrolyte imbalance, or oedema with prolonged low dose therapy.|
|Precautions||Corticosteroids lower the immune response to infections, and may delay wound healing and fracture repair, particularly in older animals.Disposal Dispose of empty sachets by wrapping in paper and placing in garbage.|
|Dosage and Administration||Mix and administer in a small amount of feed prior to bulk of meal.Allergic skin diseases, Queensland itch. Adult horses (400 to 600 kg). Treatment, mild cases: 2 to 3 sachets daily for four to six days; severe cases: 3 sachets daily for seven to ten days. Maintenance: 2 sachets alternate days for three weeks. Withdrawal: 1 to 2 sachets twice weekly for three weeks. Ponies (200 to 300 kg). Treatment, mild cases: 1 sachet daily for four to six days; severe cases: 2 sachets daily for seven to ten days. Maintenance: 1 sachet alternate days for three weeks. Withdrawal: 1 sachet twice weekly for three weeks. See product literature for full details.Cutaneous onchocerciasis.
