Indication | Eye infections due to fusidic acid sensitive Staphylococci in dogs and cats. |
Actions | Active against a wide range of Gram-positive organisms, particularly Staphylococci. Also exerts a high level of clinical activity against Streptococci and Corynebacteria. No cross resistance between fusidic acid and other clinically available antibiotics has been shown, and fusidic acid is stable to bacterial β-lactamases. Sustained release formulation ensures prolonged contact with the conjunctival sac, therefore, application twice daily provides sufficient concentrations of fusidic acid in all relevant tissues of the eye. Fusidic acid penetrates well into the aqueous humour.Conoptal is generally nontoxic, and experience with fusidic acid from dermatological use shows a very low allergenic potential. Cross allergy between fusidic acid and other antibiotics has not been reported. |
Warnings | Allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions to the active substance or the excipients might occur. |
Dosage and Administration | Instil 1 drop into the eye twice daily. Continue treatment for 2 days after the eye has returned to normal. Surgical prophylaxis. Instil 1 drop 12 hours before operation. |
