Indication | Bacterial scours and enteritis due to susceptible organisms in calves and horses. |
Actions | The two sulfonamides in Neo-Sulcin have been used extensively in the treatment of gastrointestinal infections, particularly those where the infecting organisms have invaded the intestinal walls and are thus not accessible to poorly absorbed compounds such as phthalylsulfathiazole.Sulfadimidine and sulfadiazine have proved particularly effective for the treatment of enteric conditions in calves and foals caused by Salmonella and coliform organisms.Neomycin sulfate is absorbed to only a small extent from the gastrointestinal tract and so builds up a high concentration in the gut. Its broad spectrum of activity and stability in the presence of bacterial enzymes and ingesta make it valuable for the treatment of enteric infections. The B group vitamins thiamine and riboflavine are included to help correct any deficiency which may develop as a result of alteration to gastrointestinal flora following antibacterial therapy. |
