Oral absorption of phenylbutazone can vary considerably between individual horses with up to tenfold differences in peak plasma concentrations. More consistent results can be obtained when the paste is administered prior to feeding. In most horses the considered minimal effective therapeutic plasma level of 7 microgram/mL should be maintained with adequate safety by administering the recommended dose rates at 12 hourly intervals during the acute stage of responsive conditions. |
Precautions | Discontinue therapy if signs of lethargy, gastrointestinal tract irritation, inappetence, oral ulceration, or vascular disorders and hypoproteinaemia resulting in ventral abdominal oedema occur during treatment. Adhere strictly to dose rates recommended for ponies and foals, where there is a greater risk of toxicity than in the adult horse. See product literature for further details. |

(450 kg) 10 mL twice on first day; then 5 mL twice daily for 4 days; then 5 mL daily or every alternate day, as required. Ponies.
